Gazi Salhauddin Tanvir, former joint member secretary of the National Citizens Party, has alleged that he was subjected to severe torture, threats and medical neglect while in jail and on remand from August 5 to September 15.
‘I was tortured and threatened that my family would be disappeared if I spoke about it,’ Tanvir said while speaking to journalists at Dhaka Reporters Unity on Friday.
Tanvir said he was arrested on August 5 in a case filed under the Cyber Security Act on August 2. He alleged that he was kept in poor prison conditions in Bogura, given spoiled food and later developed diarrhoea.
The case was filed on August 2 by Bogura Sadar upazila BNP president HS Maftun Ahmed Khan Rubel under the Cyber Security Act, 2026.

Tanvir further claimed that he was given 70–80 unidentified injections and that his right hand and leg became paralysed after one such injection. He said doctors later told him he had suffered a stroke, although prison authorities allegedly denied it.
Tanvir also alleged that he lost movement from his waist down following an MRI-related incident and remained unconscious for 10–12 hours.
He claimed that men in plain clothes later assaulted him while he was being transported after treatment and that the Bashundhara Group chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan and his son Sayem Sobhan Anvir were mentioned during the alleged assault.
He also alleged that some Awami League-linked prisoners received preferential treatment in jail, including better food, phone access and nighttime movement outside the prison.
Tanvir said he is now suffering from serious health complications and has been referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
