The body of a Bangladeshi expatriate, who died in Dubai during Iranian missile strikes, was brought back to Bangladesh Monday.
Emirates flight EK 582 carrying the body of Ahmad Ali, also known as Saleh Ahmed, of Barlekha upazila in Moulvibazar arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 8:20am.
Officials said four Bangladeshis have died since the start of the US-Israeli strikes on Iran and Iran’s retaliatory attacks, including one in Bahrain and two in Saudi Arabia. Around 14 Bangladeshis have been injured, with local missions providing support.
According to a press release, Expatriates’ Welfare State Minister Md Nurul Haque, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obayed Islam, and senior secretary of the expatriates’ welfare ministry received the body at the airport. Ahmad Ali’s family members were also present there.Briefing reporters, Nurul Haque said the government has been coordinating with the families of the deceased and providing logistic support amid flight disruptions. Families of the Bangladeshis killed in Saudi Arabia, including Bachchu Mia of Tangail and another from Kishoreganj, have also been contacted.
He urged Bangladeshi expatriates to avoid conflict-hit areas, follow local warning systems, and not post content on social media that could violate host country laws.
Shama Obayed said the government is committed to protecting its citizens and supporting bereaved families. She added that senior officials and Ahmad Ali’s family would take the body to his home in Moulvibazar for burial. She expressed hope that the conflict would end soon, preventing further loss of Bangladeshi lives.
The body of expatriate Bangladeshi SM Tareq, who was killed in Bahrain, will be brought back home once flights resume, Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment said in a statement.
The bodies of the two other people killed in Saudi Arabia will be brought home once clearance is received from the Saudi authorities, the ministry said.
