Bangladesh’s imported LNG supply to the national gas grid increased to 751 million cubic feet per day on Saturday as both floating LNG terminals operated by Excelerate Energy and Summit Group resumed operations following recent disruptions.
A Petrobangla official said the latest operational report showed 751 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) of regasified LNG being supplied to the national grid at 6:00 am on Saturday.
The report did not separately specify the contributions of the two terminals.
However, the official said Summit was likely supplying around 450 mmcfd, with the remaining volume coming from Excelerate Energy’s terminal at Moheshkhali.
The report also showed that local gas production stood at 1,613 mmcfd, bringing the total gas supply to the national grid to 2,364 mmcfd at the time.
Excelerate Energy’s floating storage and regasification unit went offline on Friday afternoon due to a technical problem, temporarily disrupting the supply of imported LNG to the national grid.
Meanwhile, Summit LNG Terminal resumed operations on Friday evening after remaining idle since Thursday afternoon due to difficulties in berthing an LNG cargo.
According to a media release from Summit Power International, the terminal began supplying around 110 mmcfd of regasified LNG to the national grid at 6:10 pm on Friday. It expected to raise the supply to its full operational capacity of around 550 mmcfd by 2:00 am on Saturday.
The disruption at Summit had caused imported LNG supply to fall to between 250mmcfd and 300mmcfd on Friday, far below the usual level of around 1,000mmcfd.
Bangladesh currently relies on two floating storage and regasification units, operated by Excelerate Energy and Summit Group, with a combined nominal regasification capacity of 1,100mmcfd.
